We can all recognize that the best websites are designed for both users and Google in mind, correct? That means you never should spare beauty over function, or vice versa. What you should do is review your site for the following five common mistakes people make when creating a website for their business, and see if your attractive design is preventing your site from ranking high in Google Mistake#1: Missing "H1 Tags" (Particularly on the Home Page)Picture entering a site with a beautiful background image, a well thought out font, and an extravagant color scheme. It looks great. Browsing through it appears like a walk in a beautiful park. Well...Too bad nobody will find it on Google. Why? Because frequently website creators and designers forget about some essential SEO factors. The most common sin is removing an "H1" tag just because there is no room for it on the Home Page. The H1 tag or "H1" Title, is one of the primary elements Google crawlers will check to decide what the page is about. Having this title, and including your target keyword, of course, increases your possibilities of ranking higher in search engines. If you wish to explain how the website will benefit from an H1 Title, try the "five-second test." According to this test, if a visitor can quickly tell what the site is about after only looking at it for five seconds, it is user-friendly. Mistake #2: Not enough Content on the HomepageOne of the first things I focus on when doing Website audits is the amount of "QUALITY CONTENT" on the Homepage. As a rule of thumb, the homepage needs to have at least a thousand words of content (a safe bet is to aim for 2000+ words). Mistake #3: Contact Information at the Bottom of the PageI'm sure you have experienced this common mistake. When you are interested in a product or service, you get your phone and go straight to the website, but the phone number, email or call to action is nowhere to be found, actually, you need to scroll all the way down to find all this information. Believe or not people are lazy, and when they don't see your contact information right there on the top of the page, they are just going to move on. Your Contact information needs to be visible in both the top and bottom of the page Mistake #4: Your Content is not Keyword OrientedAn essential part of every website is the use of "Keywords." People find you on Google based on the keywords on your website. So by saying that, I emphasize the importance of including all main keywords including most searched phrases in your Homepage, but be careful, you need to be very creative and make it look "natural" and avoid "Keyword Stacking" since this could also lead to Google not ranking your site at all. Mistake #5: Not enough "Calls to Action"The more user-friendly your site is, the better is going to perform on Google. By using calls to action on your site, you remind your visitors to Take action, meaning, to get in touch with you, to fill out a form, to apply for your course, you get my drift. It is crucial that you include Calls to Action on every single page on your website. By you identifying these common mistakes and fixing them, you are on the way to higher rankings on search engines.
